Behavior monitoring at scale.
I want to understand how animal behavior is shaped by environmental conditions. However, measuring behavior patterns of animals is not trivial. My research focuses on measuring and studying behavioral patterns of wild animals across diverse ecosystems. I am building projects on long-term behavior monitoring of different taxa to link behavioral decision making of animals with ecosystem processes. I use AI and computer vision to extract behavioral signatures from the large volume of data obtained from multi-modal sensors. My methods introduce a new paradigm of non-intrusive and cost-effective methods for collecting spatio-temporal behavior data for different taxa at unprecedented scale and resolution.
I have developed several tools, techniques and datasets as open-source contributions for AI community and biologists. My methods are already being used for designing scalable behavior monitoring tools for new species. My current projects involve mate-choice study on antelopes (Blackbucks) using drones and satellite data, evolution of cooperation with Siberian jays using video datasets, and impact of sleep on social behavior of baboons using thermal cameras and LiDAR sensors.
